Welcome
to the Pets on Wheels of Prince George's County, Maryland, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing friendly pet visits for residents & seniors of nursing care & assisted living facilities, adult day care centers, & schools for handicapped children. Residents of these institutions often receive no visitors, are lonely, depressed, & some are only able to respond to friendly pets during regular visits. Volunteers receive orientation, mentoring, & recognition. The pets, ranging from dogs & cats to birds, rabbits, & guinea pigs, are certified healthy by a licensed veterinarian, fulfill State Health Department regulations, & evaluated for temperament.
The Pets on Wheels program is wholly dependent upon private donations. Funding is also obtained from other means such as fundraisers & The United Way. Prince George's County Pets on Wheels currently services approximately 30 facilities.
